Follow these steps for admission if you are a new college student.

We encourage you to connect with NHCC at an on-campus info session or virtual appointment to learn more about college! Check out an overview of the steps below, then get started! Please let us know if you have any questions and we'll be glad to help.

  • 1. Apply for Admission

    APPLY ONLINE

    • Check your email for communication regarding acceptance (this may be in your spam/junk folder).
    • Submit official high school transcript or GED certificate if you graduated in the past 5 years
    • Submit test scores, such as ACT, SAT, or ACCUPLACER test scores. These can be used for placement and waivers.
    • Immunization Record Form

Are you a transfer student? You must also submit...

    • Official college transcripts from institutions outside the Minnesota State system (MnSCU). E-transcripts from Minnesota State institutions are automatically received when you apply. Transcripts are evaluated for credit and prerequisite completion within two weeks (evaluation sent via email). Please review our transfer credit policies.

      Mail official transcripts to:
      North Hennepin Community College
      Records & Registration
      7411 85th Avenue N
      Brooklyn Park, MN 55445

Are you returning to NHCC? You must also complete...

  • 2. Apply for Financial Aid

Apply for aid to help pay for tuition, fees and books through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or MN Dream Act. Foundation scholarships are also available.

  • 3. Course Placement

The Testing Center website provides information about course placement and requires a Course Placement Evaluation Form to be completed. Contact the Testing Center at 763-424-0928 or TestingCenter@nhcc.edu with questions about placement. If needed you can sign up for an ACCUPLACER testing time through RegisterBlast

  • 4. Complete Online Orientation

All new students are required to complete an Online Orientation in D2L. Please use your StarID and password to log-in to D2L to complete your Online Orientation, which is found in the 'My Courses' section. This orientation introduces students to available resources for college success. Contact the Advising Center at 763-424-0703 or orientation@nhcc.edu with any questions.

  • 5. Register for Classes at a Registration Session

After completing Online Orientation, the Advising Center will manually review your orientation scores and placements/waivers. When you are ready to meet with an Academic Advisor to register for classes, the Advising Center will send you a link to your NHCC email with instructions on how to complete your Registration Session. Please note: your orientation hold will not be lifted to allow for registration until you meet with an Academic Advisor.

In August, there are likely wait times for meetings with Academic Advisors. Please be patient as we assist with new and current student enrollment!

  • Transfer Students

Transfer students in good academic standing may be able to register online for courses (self-selecting classes) a couple days after completing online orientation.

  • 6. Pay Tuition and Buy Books

Students may pay for tuition and books using financial aid, cash, check, credit card, payment plan, or Veterans benefits. Students can get books and supplies through NHCC's Bookstore. Our online bookstore website is where you can look up which books/materials are needed for your courses.
